When hearing about accommodation and inclusion, what comes to your mind? Perhaps having a disability or something similar. However, we don’t often hear about certain conditions such as being deaf or hard of hearing. Well, why not? It’s protected under the Americans with Disabilities act of 1990, right? American society has come far to accommodate those who are deaf, and we continue to make strides to truly accommodate and include everyone. It’s not simply a moral responsibility, it’s required by law! To be diverse, we have to help everyone.
Technology can help bridge the gap in these regards, and we’ll show you how! On July 27, 2017, PRSONAS™ attended the 22nd Telecommunications for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing, Inc. (TDI) Biennial Conference. The TDI is a national non-profit organization advancing the 48 million deaf and hard-of-hearing American’s accessibility requirements in telecommunications, media, and information technologies. Its commitment to accommodating those who are deaf allows us to progress past our limits on how we can make a difference.
For this event, we worked alongside both technology giant Microsoft and Gallaudet University, the world’s only university specifically designed for the education of deaf and hard-of-hearing students. Gallaudet teaches and transforms with the help of technology and innovation. We were honored to be even a small part of moving closer to the goal of accommodating and serving the deaf community with the help of our technology.
During the conference, our CEO, David Rose, gave an informative presentation and live demonstration of how PRSONAS™ interactive holograms can speak virtually any language, most notably American Sign Language in this case. Using our digital personalities and artificial intelligence, our units can serve many roles from greeters to digital wayfinding while also tending to the needs of a diverse background of guests.
